One Step at a Time
Taking an English class has always put doubt on my mind. Going into this class I didn't think it would be that much harder then ENG 1010. Knowing that my last English class was very easy, I didn't see my grades changing drastically. Hoping my teacher from ENG 1010 wasn't throwing a curve ball at us, I went right into ENG 1020 with confidence. I did pretty well in my last English class, on the writing aspect of it, that it boosts my confidence up a little. I have always been a writer where I talk about something for a while than I run out of things to say so and I kind of just babble on with pointless information. Sometimes that has actually given me a great grade. But in the past, it’s done me no good.
Writing the first assignment, I thought I was going to talk about my family and my house as the place. I was brainstorming and this topic interested me very well, but then furthering my brainstorming, I realized that I couldn't right about this and actually feel what I’m writing, I felt like there was no way I could have gotten 10 pages out of this, and I didn't want it to end up very boring. When I changed my entire topic, I changed to writing about the environment of me being little and not be able to speak correctly. I talk about my entire story and how one person changed my life. Knowing that I experienced what I was writing, I felt that it was easier to write with feeling. With the help of my mom for bringing back most of the memories, in my mind, I wrote a great story.
Writing my next assignment was also hard to think of an author to write about. I ended up researching authors for short stories and came across Alice Walker, if you have ever heard of her she is a wonderful author and she has written some amazing books. My overall thought about this assignment very good. I went through it very easily and it wasn't too hard! The fact that my group of classmates and my teacher helped me out, I got more ideas to go off of! The last assignment, or should I say assignments, were the weekly blogs. I felt like those were very easy because they were all your opinion on the topics that were given to you. I did have to make revisions to them by adding more to them because some of them were a little short.
So overall this course went over very well. I have no complaints! This semester I realized and when you put a lot of imagery, tone, and the others we learned about, that the paper will turn out beautiful. I felt that I had a chance to do that and I nailed it. My goals going into this class was to get the best grade I could and turn everything in on time. I felt that I tried my best and getting full credit on all blogs and writing groups, my grade it the best I want it! This portfolio is a chance to see my efforts and see me as a writer. I give myself an A!
